Cloud Basics

What the cloud is, how regions work, and how to think about cost.

When people say "the cloud," they often picture something abstract and invisible, like electricity flowing through the air.

When you decide where your software will run, you face a fundamental choice: use cloud services or run your own server.

When you use cloud services, you are not renting a magical, invisible computer.

When you use cloud services, you are really choosing how much of the underlying technology you want to manage yourself.

Thinking about cloud costs is not about becoming an accountant or memorizing price lists.

Your first cloud service is not about mastering a dozen tools or memorising a catalogue of features.
